Whether you are new golfer or an experienced pro, you’re probably looking for ways of cutting strokes off of your score. Many golfers don’t realize that the best way to do this is by improving their swing. That fancy new club isn’t the secret to getting low scores, proper technique is.
Before you work on correcting your swing is important to realize that a different swing is required for different types of shots. Obviously driving and putting are quite different, but hitting the ball from different types of terrain will also require a different kind of shot. It is important that you master your swing for each type of scenario.
Breaking your swing down into step by step components is the first thing you must do if you want to improve it. The first component of any swing is the grip. Finding a grip that is comfortable for you is vital if you want the rest of your swing to work right.
The next thing you’ll want to look at is your stance. You wanna make sure that your body is in the same position every time you take a swing to ensure a consistent shot. You need to understand that the power of your shot comes from your hips. Always keep your knees slightly bent, and your shoulders square.
The backswing is the next component of your swing that you’ll want to look at. First try not to twist and turn your body too much, as this could cause the ball to hook or slice and not go where you want it. Also make sure you’re not using too much backswing. You’re not in a longest drive competition, and accuracy is far more important than hitting the ball as far as you can.
During your downswing make sure that your right arm is straight up until the very end, and your hits turned slightly in the direction of the target. Keep the left arm relaxed throughout the process.
Anyone who has ever played golf should know that the swing is the most important part of your game. You will never be able to consistently get good scores a lesser able to hit the ball precisely and accurately and get it to go where you want it to. Usually that means on the green, and not in the sand or the water.
So how you get the ball to the we wanted to? The key is to have a swing that is not only consistent with that you’re in total control of. Consistency is very important if you want to be a good golfer. Far too many golfers seem to think that various factors lead to them having either good days or bad days, when really the reason is that their technique is not consistent.
The biggest secret to obtaining a consistent golf swing and improving your technique is to break the swing down into its smallest components. Doing this may lead you to realize things that you would otherwise notice. For instance, you may notice that you are not following through with your wrist when you hit the ball and you are creating sidespin.
For the biggest mistakes golfers make with their swing, especially newer golfers, is having far too much backswing. They do this because they want to hit the ball as far as they can. While distance is an important part of getting a good golf score, accuracy with your swing is even more important.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your technique is more important in your equipment. Too many golfers think that a shiny new golf club is going to magically lower their score, when in reality their technique is fundamentally flawed.
If you don’t use the knockdown shot as one of the foundational elements in your golf “kit bag” you are missing out on something that could prove transformational in improving your golf scores.
The knockdown shot is simply a reduced swing using a more restricted movement than your normal swing. An example would be the type of swing you take from a fairway bunker where there is a premium of keeping things “still”. All things being equal, a knockdown is achieved by taking about two more clubs than for a normal shot and swinging back to a level or 0900 position with your lead arm parallel to the ground. From that position you swing through like a normal swing. The shot should fly fairly straight and go approximately 75% or two clubs less than the club you would normally use for the same distance. For example, if I normally hit my 8 iron 150 yards, I would use a 6 iron to hit a knockdown shot of the same distance. The shot will fly lower and have less spin, all things being equal.
When do you use the knockdown? If you practice the swing enough to get comfortable with and perfect it, you can get to the point where you reach the other side of that question, e.g., when wouldn’t you use a knockdown shot? The knockdown is ideal for wind or weather, where there is a premium on keeping the ball in play. Similarly, if you are facing a shot where you have to be ultimately safe, it helps to have a shot to fall back on that is easy to execute and also has a very predictable outcome. Finally, many pros have described how they hit “nothing but knockdowns” under the gun when the choke factor was high.
A caution I should throw in before we go much further is if you use a hard ball for distance, that is, a ball that does not spin very much or if you have difficulty spinning the ball, the range of situations where you can use the knockdown is going to be dramatically reduced.
The knockdown works best with the short through middle irons but can be extended to the long irons or driver with practice. How to hit it. Take a neutral stance (everything aligned parallel or square to the target line, feet evenly spaced and relatively square) with an 8 iron and practice making a hip to hip swing with minimal body movement. The club should go back to 0900 or in the position described above (picture a baseball hitter at the ready position). This drill is similar to that described in Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons, The Modern Fundamentals of Golf (and no, it is not one of his secrets). On the downswing, the key is not to do anything fancy or helpful but just swing the clubhead through the ball. While it is a partial swing, the body parts must keep up and keep pace. The surest way to ruin the swing is to slow down or decelerate through the ball because it is a partial swing. One of the keys is to swing form 0900 to 0300, or from hip to hip.
The reason this shot should be in your kit bag is it is an easy shot to hit once you work through the fundamentals. The combination of being a relatively straight shot while also being an easy swing to do regardless of how warmed up or sharp you are, makes it an ideal default swing in the event you get to the course and have no time for warmups. Or as a default shot for par 3s, where there is a premium on hitting the green and you get to tee the ball up. In fact, the better you get with this shot the more you will find yourself using it on par 3s as your default shot (assuming you resolve the caution about ball spin above).
The simplicity of this technique can help augment your choices on the golf course while adding a relatively safe default option to help stay out of trouble. Try it and work it out on the range and good luck! For more information about the technique refer to Tom Kite’s original box system or the Dave Pelz’s Short Game bible. Good Golfing! Mark
Maintain the swing plane
The shoulders, arms, hands and club should all be taken away from the ball as one single unit. A popular drill to help you with that is to hold a towel between your front arm and chest while swinging the club. If the towel becomes loose and falls, you did not stay connected as you should.
In order to maintain the swing plane a duffer must maintain the angle that is created while the club is at address. A good drill for this is to stick a tee into the butt end of the club and swing back to stopping when you front arm has become parallel to the ground. The tee in the club should point to or just slightly beyond the intended target line.
Double D went to the range one day and tried the “Iron Byron” swing just for kicks so to speak. He kept hitting the ball with a high fade/slice. All the more admiration for the guy who made it work so well. At least for that round that very unconventional swing was a repeatable swing. And that repeating swing made all the difference between his scorecard and ours.
If you are a golfer, you no doubt understand how enjoyable it can be to go out on the course with your buddies, experience the outdoors, and play a round of 18 holes. Even though simply playing the game can be an amazing experience, it’s always better if you win. Not only is winning fun, but winning consistently is even better.
If you want to learn how to win consistently, the most important thing you can do is improve your golf swing. The swing is by far the most crucial element of your golf game. It is even more important than the course, or your equipment. Without a consistent golf swing, even the most expensive club in the world isn’t going to improve your game.
The reason the golf swing is so important is that it allows you to control where the ball goes. This may seem obvious, but too many golfers seem to think that the club or even luck is a major determining factor. On the contrary, your swing is the largest factor that will determine whether or not you have success on the course.
The best thing you can do if you want to improve your swing is to break it down into its smallest components. This will allow you to find out exactly what is going wrong, and to correct it in a systematic way. For instance, you may find that you are not following through with your wrists when you hit the ball and this is causing you to slice. Without breaking your swing down you may never have realized this.
One of the most common mistakes golfers make with their swing is having too much backswing. It’s almost as if they think they are in a longest drive competition. It is important to realize that accuracy and precision are often more important than distance.
Many people who play the game of golf seem OK with keeping our game the way it is. We go on, round after round, never making any changes. We shoot the same high scores, never asking ourselves “how can I fix my golf swing”? The reason we never ask this is because we don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.
I’d like to be the first to tell you that if your golf score is too high then there’s probably something wrong with your golf swing. Now of course without seeing your game it is impossible to know exactly what the problem is. It may be a major problem, or you might just need a minor fix. Regardless of what is wrong with your golf swing, fixing it is the first step towards improving your score on the course.
In order to fix your golf swing you’re going to need to break it down into small steps. The first thing to look at is your backswing. Many people have far too much backswing, and it’s causing them problems. No, the club doesn’t need to wrap all the way around your head. A large backswing may allow you to hit the ball farther, but unless you’re trying to win a long drive contest, it is far more important to be able to hit the ball straight and with accuracy.
One more thing you need to check, is that you’re rolling your wrists through the contact with the ball. One of the most common problems golfers have is that the slice the ball too often. Not rolling your wrists creates what is called sidespin and this causes the ball to curve to one side or the other. Instead you need to create overspin, which will not only cause the ball to go straighter, but will cause it to bounce down the fairway once it hits the ground.
Another thing which helps a lot of golfers is to visualize the shot before they take it. Close your eyes for a few seconds and think of exactly what you want the shot to look like as it travels through the air. This may sound silly, but you would be surprised how well it works.
Golf swing launch monitors tend to play a rather important role in helping intermediate-level golf players and a number of advanced players, study the swing aspect of their games. The golf swing launch monitor equipment helps a golfer in determining why the path of a golf ball is the way it is depending on the golf swing that is placed on the golf ball. The gathered information can help a golfer change his/her swing or to find the right equipment for a greater level of accuracy when playing the game.
Most golf swing launch monitors will collate the data which is compiled for more than a 100 swings and will make their analysis in order to provide players with the necessary details needed to improve. A lot of players, novice and professional alike, have seen the success that a golf ball launch monitor can provide. In turn, they have determined how to properly apply the information gathered by the launch monitor to achieve the desired trajectories for golf balls and a higher level of accuracy.
The beauty and the need for golf launch monitor software isn’t something you see simply from patronizing specialty shops which cater to professional golfers. You can see the importance and the presence of golf swing launch monitors in everything from the big sporting establishments to the smaller ones serving a variety of golf players. Any shop worth its salt is going to offer golf swing launch monitors of one kind of the other. They are in so much demand because your swing is a crucial aspect of your game and the right golf swing launch monitors and equipment can easily turn you into a highly-skilled golf player.
These monitors tend to help with a mix of a great launch angle as well as a backspin swing movement. They focus on turning the people who make use of such equipment into better golfers and swing and launch angle are not the only bits of information they provide. Any good launch swing program will provide at least the following information on a basic level: Ball Speed, Face Impact Position, Launch Angle, Club Head Speed, Flight Time and Yards Off Line.
Some programs even go further to provide averages of your shots in various areas and comparing them to give you the necessary details required to improve your game.
Golf swing launch monitors are usually part of a newer and complex system which also includes golf swing analyzer computer software. You can have a golf swing launch monitor as well as golf swing analyzer software as parts of a single system. Varying systems provide varying levels of accuracy but as you can probably imagine, those systems which provide the highest levels of accuracy, are usually those which are most sought after.
All you need is some assistance from your computer, golf swing analyzer computer software and golf swing launch monitor equipment and you will have the needed tools to become a success at your game and defeat those that may happen to cross your path in the game. Never before have tools provided a greater capacity for improvement as in the case of golf swing launch monitors and swing analyzer software.
Every golf pro and expert will tell you the same thing; the slice is the most common problem for the average golfer. However how big of a problem the slice is for your golf game, it can all be cured and ultimately you will end up playing better golf altogether. After all, golf is a lot more enjoyable when you can get those good results.
How to Cure a Golf Slice With 9.00 To 3.00 Exercise
This drill is very simple and all you have to do is follow it and repeat it often and you should see lot less slices coming from your golf swing. Of course nothing good in life comes easy and golf is no exception, only practice will cure your slice problems.
At the beginning of this “golf slice curing” drill consider your arms like being the hands on a clock. Now start turning until your left arm is at nine o’clock and your wrists are fully set. After this just simply turn through the golf shot until your right arm is pointed at three o’clock. The right hand must hold the set by not ever releasing, with the core rotating hard and your arms releasing low and left. Once you are able to strike the golf ball constantly in the center of the face, you can take it further, to ten o’clock then to eleven and so on.
Many golf players have been shocked to realize that how far they can hit the ball with such a short backswing and armswing. The armswing in this slice cure drill is so short because it’s the only way to make sure you are creating all the power to your swing by the pivot of your torso and that is the secret to a repeatable and simple golf swing.
This exercise isn’t only good for curing your slice problem but it will also teach you one of the most valuable golf shots you could imagine. I’m of course talking about your wedge game, on which mastering this drill will have a huge affect on.
Golf swing training aids are basically products and devices that will assist you in improving your golf game, and because these aids can benefit you so much, this is thus why you should make sure to inform yourself on them. They are a great investment for golfers who seriously want to improve their play at golf. They are vital because they help you develop a good technique and improve your game, regardless of the equipment you use, whether it is top of the range or not.
Golf begins and ends with the proper golf swing. Golf swing instructions are essential to learning not only the basics of the sport but to achieving any kind of success on the course. Golf instructions advise participants to bend forward from the hip socket until the arms can swing freely through the chest area.
Swinging the club and striking the ball the same way each and every time will deliver the same results. Swinging a golf club is not that difficult. Swinging a golf club the same way consistently is, and that is where a golf swing training aid can come in handy. Swinging easily and striking hard does involve the basic mechanics and is anything but natural.
Training aids are a dime a dozen, so why should you even look into a golf club that is used for improving your swing and power. They will either provide immediate feedback while you are swinging or delayed feed back after the action has been completed.
Golfers who are able to make those great golf swings developed their skills.
Professional golfers are in disagreement as to how you should go about driving the golf ball but there is one thing that every one of them does agree upon, keeping your balance throughout the entire golf swing is what makes it a good great shot. Probably, you never considered golf to be so much about science and physics, but then you should know that golf swing biomechanics is studied very seriously by all professional golfers.
Golf swing training aids are an excellent way to improve your game. They help with developing your golf game when you can’t make it to the golf course or driving range. They are products and devices to help you improve your golf game, and if chosen properly, they can be of great benefit.
